iPhone headset plagued by short range

Posted in by chief tattler. Published August 3rd, 2007

There’s a lot I like about the iPhone Bluetooth headset. But for $129, this minimalist accessory seems to be hampered by the worst range I’ve ever encountered in a Bluetooth device. Apple advertises up to 30 feet. Ha!

Three feet is more like it.

Seriously. unless I’m within two feet or so, interference and breakup happens.

The sound quality - when held close to the iPhone - is excellent. Volume is adequate. And I love the way it charges in a cradle next to the iPhone, which it automatically pairs with.

But the range is horrible.
